Astronomik UHC-E
The Astronomik UHC family
Our internationally known Astronomik Profi UHC filter got a new brother: The UHC-E-filter. With the UHC-E, the starting observer gets access to a filter, which improves contrast for deep-sky-observation at a surprisingly low prize. Especially owners of small telescopes benefit from this UHC filter without having to purchase the more narrow-band - and thus more expensive - variant.
The philosophy of the UHC filters
Unfortunately the black sky around deep-sky objects, especially when observed with low magnification, seems to be not really black. This effect does not only appear around inhabited regions, where the night sky is loaded by disturbing sources of light.
A closer look at the spectra of deep-sky-objects and the sources of light pollution lead to the design of an ultra-high-contrast filter. This filter allows the light of the observed object (H-beta and O-III for visual observation, H-alpha for astrophotography) to pass and blocks the light pollution, namely the frequencies of low pressure sodium lights used in traffic lamps. The result is a filter that is of great use in the observation of supernova-remnants or starbirth-regions.
In the meantime regularly reports of experienced amateur astronomers arrive, who use the filter for primarily not intended uses. For example it is said, the filter made the observation of cloud structures on Jupiter easier or helped seperating difficult double stars. Give it a try!
UHC-E filter
Compared to the professional UHC filter, this filters full width at half maximum is somewhat larger (typical 45nm against 33nm) and the transmission is somewhat smaller (typically 94% against 98%). That makes it more inexpensive and thus affordable for a small budget. Despite the more economical production the quality of our UHC-E filter exceeds that of most narrow band filters offered by competitors.
Used with telescopes larger then 6 inch diameter the UHC-E filter produces an image with lower contrast than its older brother. At telescopes with less than 6 inch diameter the visual experience is similar, but the UHC-E filter shows significantly more stars.
